by Liz Gubernatis

If you’ve ever run your fingers through the softest bolts of luxe cuddle, dreaming of a luxurious throw blanket that looks expensive and snuggles like nostalgia, we’ve got the project for YOU! It’s a simple project with a huge impact, and we can’t wait to see which of the hundreds of gorgeous colors and prints call out to you. Curl up in the lap (blanket) of luxury - it’s sew easy! We’ve got all the tips and tricks - let’s get started!

Supplies Needed

  • To make this Luxe Cuddle Throw, all you need is two (2) 2 yard cuts of Luxe Cuddle. We used Rabbit but you can use absolutely any Luxe Cuddle.

  • Additionally, you’ll need polyester thread. We chose black and it blended in beautifully.

Before We Begin

some Cuddle® Basics

These are the top ten tips for working with Cuddle® minky fabrics. Unless indicated otherwise, we’re using these tips to construct this heart pillow. Note the seam allowance, pinning and cutting hints, in particular, and be sure to lengthen your stitch and use polyester thread in top and bobbin. Here are the tips:

1. Mark measurements on the reverse side of fabric with a felt tip marker or ballpoint pen.

2. Cut with a rotary cutter, craft knife, or micro-serrated scissors.

3. To manage your “confetti'' just shake cut pieces or put in a no-heat dryer with a damp washcloth for a few minutes to remove loose fibers.

4. Sew with polyester thread in the top and the bobbin.

5. Reduce presser foot pressure when sewing multiple layers. (*For this project, two layers shouldn’t need any adjustments, but it’s a good rule of thumb.)

6. Increase stitch length to 3–4 mm.

7. Double pin by using 2 rows of pins— the first row every 1½" along the seam line and a second row 1" to the left and parallel to the cut edge.

8. Backstitch at beginning and end of seams.

9. Seam allowances are ½".

10. Use an even-feed or walking foot, if possible. It makes a difference!

Project Instructions

Prepare

Step 1

Measure your two (2) 2-yard cuts and trim as needed. Place right sides together and pin using hints above. (Use good pins, lots of pins, and double pin for best results and easiest sewing.).

Step 2

Leave space with for turning - we used safety pins to mark the turning area and hold the Luxe cuddle in place. .

Sew

Step 3

Stitch with a ½ inch seam allowance. Sew right off the edge.

Step 4

Sew an “L-shape” at the turning area to secure the seams and make it easier to fold in once turned.

Step 5

Turn the entire throw. Press out corners with your fingers.

Step 6

Using the edge of the machine’s needle plate, stitch 1-3” away from the seam all the way around the throw

Step 7

You may hand-stitch or machine stitch closed using a ⅛” seam allowance.

That’s all there is to this luxurious Cuddle throw. You can “fluff” the long pile of the cuddle in the 1-3” seam with your finger or a brush - it will lift from the stitches and look oh-sew-lovely thrown around your shoulders or over your lap as you snuggle up to read a great book or watch your favorite quilty YouTube channel!
